Cyprus starts building ‘Europe’s biggest casino resort’
A new casino resort in Cyprus that is expected to be Europe’s biggest will be the centerpiece of the Mediterranean island’s strategy to become a luxury tourism destination. The casino will be located in Limassol and is set to start operating in 2021. In the meantime a temporary facility is set to operate until works are completed on the City of Dreams Mediterranean casino-resort.
The country’s president, Nicos Anastasiades, said yesterday that the 550 million euro ($651 million) City of Dreams Mediterranean casino resort is the biggest investment project ever undertaken in Cyprus. Once operational in 2021, the resort will create around 6,500 jobs, attract an additional 300,000 visitors to Cyprus each year and pour some 700 million euros ($828.5 million) into the economy annually.
It is being built by Melco Resorts and Entertainment, one of the biggest developer, owner and operator of casino gaming and entertainment casino resort facilities in Asia.
The integrated resort will feature a luxury hotel with more than 500 five-star rooms, suites and villas, 11 restaurants and bars, as well as around 1,200 square meters of retail area designed to replicate the streetscape of the old Nicosia city center.
